Singapore, being the last stop for G-Dragon’s “One Of A Kind” World Tour
Concert, the video presented at the start of the media conference,
featured almost all the countries that this concert had been to since
March 2013. Nevertheless, one thing remained — G-Dragon had been wearing
his sunglasses to all the media conferences throughout this concert
run.
This is the first solo world tour for the leader of Kpop group Big Bang, making him feel lonely at times. However, his band mates have been giving him great support by appearing in his solo concert as guest artists whenever their schedule permits. For his two concerts in Singapore, same music label girls group 2NE1 will be the invited guests.
The 25-year old rapper who started as a child actor, has set a record as the first solo South Korean artist who has held concerts in the major performance domes across Japan, to which G-Dragon responded “I am very happy and I owe this success to my fans. Although it has not been my goal to set the record, I will continue to work hard and find a way to meet my fans’ high expectation of me“.
Since the concert tour which had gotten fantastic reviews from media and fans alike, started three months ago, minor changes had been made to the costumes. However, the one that G-Dragon wears in the opening act remains his favourite as it gives him a cool persona.
Fresh for the previous evening’s launch of his clothing collaboration with Ambush (a Japanese fashion brand) in Singapore, the fashion icon who had even presented an ‘auntie’ look at the media conference in Taiwan, admits that he tends to ‘overdo’ his image at times. However, he only wears items that he likes, hence he hopes that his fans will accept his taste in fashion. His one-word answer “Nude” when asked what fashion trend he will not try, brought laughter to all present at this media conference.
G-Dragon claims the most challenging segment to be “the nightmare (rain) theme shown in the middle of the concert as I need to imagine and portray the fear brought on by the nightmare”.
On working with big names such as Travis Payne, Stacey Walker and Jung Chi Young for this world tour which is based on the concept of ‘the artist G-Dragon’, the producer of many Big Bang’s hit tracks including Lies, Last Farewell etc states that “it has been a great help, I can learn a lot; not only on the musical front, but also on the stage presence and performance capability as an artist“. Although it had been tough and stressful at the beginning, the experience gained from this concert tour covering 9 countries will definitely help him grow further as an artist. Even though he readily confesses that he does want to be more successful in the future, his humility prevented him from ascertaining how much further he will get.
For his next album rumoured to be released on 18 August (his birthday), G Dragon declares that he will work very hard once he returns to Korea after concluding this last concert. He is not certain if all fans will like the songs that he produces, but he seeks their continual support for his upcoming and future works.
Everyone knows G-Dragon through Big Bang, I will play my part as a member whenever we perform as a group and I definitely hope that my next performance in Singapore will be with my other members as Big Bang” when asked on the probability of him leaving the group to become a solo artist.
While he and Big Bang continue to write songs that they like, without being too worried about censorship, the composer and lyricist is more stringent when it comes to working with other artists. Rather than the popularity and fame level, he focuses on sharing a common goal with similar preference in music to bring about synergistic results in the collaboration.
Endearing last words from the brilliant performer “I look forward to meeting you soon and I love you!” before he left the hour-long media conference.
